Levitra – Not Only for Older Men

Most people think of Levitra and other erectile dysfunction drugs as something older men need.  However, erectile dysfunction is becoming more and more common in younger men.  A new research study has discovered that about 25% of men being treated for erectile dysfunction are younger than 40, and half of those men are being treated for severe erectile dysfunction.

In order to have an erection, multiple systems in your body need to work.  Your nerves, blood, blood vessels, and brain all must be functioning correctly.  If something goes wrong with one of these systems, an erection – or at least a strong, long lasting erection – will not happen.

There are many causes for erectile dysfunction, and it is more common as you get older.  However, many doctors see patients in their 20s suffering for erectile dysfunction.  This can be due to diabetes, high blood pressure, cigarette or other drug use, high cholesterol, or blood vessel damage.  An unhealthy lifestyle can lead to clogged blood vessels, which prevents blood from getting to the penis and causing an erection.

This is one reason why it is important to see your doctor if you are suffering from erectile dysfunction, no matter how old you are.  Erectile dysfunction isn’t a disease – it’s a symptom.  You need to have a doctor examine you to check for heart disease or other problems that could be causing erectile dysfunction.  Erectile dysfunction has been found to be a predictor for coronary heart disease, especially if you also have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, or smoke.  This isn’t a guarantee that you are going to have a heart attack, but it is still a good idea to get checked out.  Many young men do not go to regular physicals because they believe they are healthy.

Other common causes of erectile dysfunction are psychological.  Depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, and gilt can all lead to erectile dysfunction.  These causes are especially common in younger men and are, again, a reason to see a doctor.

Although erectile dysfunction is not a fun diagnosis to get, it is usually easily treated.  Options include vacuum devices, penile injections, implants, surgery, and oral medications.  One of the most popular oral medications is Levitra, which has a very high success rate.  It is also safe to take for the majority of men, and is easy and discreet – you simply take a pill once a day!
